Seattle's BOOK OF BLACK EARTH formed in late 2003 from the ashes of Teen Cthulhu, with two of the underground band's members, vocalist / guitarist TJ Cowgill and keyboardist Hank Guthrie, joined with Joe Axler (Skarp, Splatterhouse, Closed Casket) on drums, Larry Perrigo (Wormwood) on bass, and Rebekah Dunbar (Kill Sadie, The Fitness) on guitar to form the band's earliest incarnation, ultimately releasing a three song demo to the light of day independenly in 2004. Limited to a mere 150 copies, two songs later emerged on a split with Fall Of The Bastards in 2005 through Evil Morgue Records. Following the departures of Perrigo and Dunbar in 2004 and 2006 respectively, Dav Tafoya-Garcia joined the band on guitar and vocals with Tony Spice filling the bass position in 2007, rounding out BOOK OF BLACK EARTH's current line-up, one they took on tour with future labelmates The Funeral Pyre.

Recording in late 2005, BOOK OF BLACK EARTH's first full-length, The Feast, was later released in late 2006 through underground metal label 20 Buck Spin, receiving high praise from metal mainstay magazines Decibel and Terrorizer.

"We are all very excited to work with Prosthetic Records and the people behind it, we feel like this is a good step for us as a band and a good home,” drummer Joe Axler says. “BOBE is currently finishing writing for our Prosthetic debut which will be titled Horoskopus. This is by far our most technical, heavy and challenging set of songs to date. It’s definitely pushing the envelope for us, which we stand behind, and will make this record the most brutal one we have written."

Now, with tours behind the band alongside Intronaut, Lair Of The Minotaur, The Funeral Pyre, and an appearance at Los Angeles Murderfest 3.0 in 2007, BOOK OF BLACK EARTH is completing the writing process for the band's second full length, bringing the band into The Red Room Studios in Seattle with producer / engineer Chris Common (Mouth of the Architect, These Arms Are Snakes) to capture the band's sound.

"Horoskopus is a concept album about the hidden astrological elements of the Christian church,” vocalist/guitarist T.J. Cowgill adds. “From its origins as a state sponsored religion in the fourth century to the present day, it has been guided by astrological concepts conceived centuries before Jesus Christ was mythologized as the ‘Sun’ of God."
